University Professor Information

Biology:

Barbara Kreutzer

kreutzer is awesome. She doesn't use powerpoints. Instead, she goes oldschool and writes on the board. I learned soooo much from her. She is extremely helpful in and out of class. She cares for her students and respects them. Her tests are very strait forward but very encompassing. My only regret is not holding onto my notebook aferwords.

Dr. Kreutzer is one of the best -- hands down. She will patiently explain difficult concepts to you and you're always treated with respect. Exams are fair and straightforward and the class is extremely interesting if you like biology. I can't recommend her enough.

Kreutzer goes over all the lecture information in detail with some repetition so it is easy to understand. This class is awesome! I even enjoyed going to the Friday at 8 AM lab portion of this class.

Sara Heltzel

Sara's a FANTASTIC instructor. I couldn't agree more with all the reviews so far. I had her last semester and anatomy is SUCH a difficult course. She really WANTS to help and does a tremendous job doing it. I'm so glad i had her. If you take her section there is no way that you'll regret it. I can't say enough about her, fantastic!

anatomy is such a hard class, but she is extremely helpful making sure you understand all of the material. gives a little powerpoint at the beginning of lab to recap everything that was covered in lecture and she makes sure you understand by going around and helping everyone

Absolutely gorgeous teacher-these ratings are dead on. She is willing to help. I took anatomy once before and did horribly. I feel like it's an entirely different subject with Sara teaching it. Better than any other professor I have had before. I have her class late on fridays, which sucks, but she makes it worth going to 110%. TAKE HER

Philip Klim

Klim is a great lab professor. He really cares how well his students do and he does his best to make sure everyone has the best chance possible to do well. Lab with Klim made lecture easier to learn, because he's great at explaining information. If you have a choice of lab profs pick Klim!

Professor Klim is AWESOME! He has been by far my favorite teacher at JMU and I will miss this class. He jokes a lot and makes the class fun and tries to help students relax. Anatomy is hard and you have to study to get the grade, but he makes this class enjoyable. I was excited to go to lab.

Dr. Klim is amazing! He tries to make anatomy as easy as possible. I was a little nervous about going to lab at the beginning of the semester, but he is so entertaining, and I looked forward to lab. You have to study, of course, but he is very helpful. He will explain something to you a 1,000 times if that is what it takes for you to understand.

Business:

Eric Stark

Stark is THE MAN. He is extremely knowledgable about the stuff he presents, but presents it in a great way. Always give clear direction, good study guides, and makes a hard/boring topic much more bearable. Honestly one of the best professors I've had at JMU easily.. Highly recommend

I concur with the other students. Hand's down, the best professor in the program. He's straight-forward, honest and knowledgeable. Keeps the class engaged. You better know the material because his exam is TOUGH. You can't fake your way through it.

One of the best professors I have had at my time at JMU. TAKE HIM!!! VEry clear instructor, and extremely helpful both in class and outside of it. Great professor and very smart guy.

Kari Jordan

awesome professor. definitely recommend taking her. class is fairly easy. participate a lot and go to class. attendence will help you out. she has a lot of experience and knows what she is talking about. her experience in the business world makes her lectures more efficient

Kari is definitely one of my favorite professors ever. She's successful and knows what she's talking about. Tests are a little hard, but she'll throw out questions that many people miss. She's especially helpful with the business plan. You'll love her!

Kari is amazing! She has so much business experience and she shares a common hatred for the city of harrisonburg like everyone at jmu. She isn't as easy as some of the other 202 teachers, but I would take her class again just because she is such a cool businesswoman!

Steve Welpott

Steve's a funny guy. HTM 100 is so straightforward and concise - read Seven Habits, EASIEST quiz and test EVER, interesting lectures. Attendance is pretty mandatory, which is fine since you meet once a week for this class. Can't wait to have him for more classes!

He is a cute man. Always prepared and in a good mood for class. His quizzes are decently easy. His tests are harder though. Group projects are also decent, but grades hard. Tells funny and ****ed jokes in class, which isn't a bad thing. Take him, for your life =D

By far my favorite teacher at JMU so far. He is great, really helps you learn the material. The class is enjoyable while at the same time educational. He is so nice, understanding, and funny. Great guy who loves his job and loves teaching students. Definitly Recommend. Easy B if you try

Accounting:

Diane Riordan

Dr. Riordan is great! This was my second time taking 241 (I got a D the first time)and she made it so much easier. I don't know why more 241 professors can't be as good as her. TAKE HER FOR 241 IF YOU CAN.

Dr. Riordan is definitely the best professor to take for 241. She is pretty easy and explains the information well. She is always willing to go over subjects that students are confused with. Tests are easy and do not require too much studying. TAKE HER! She is the bomb.

She is a wonderful professor and is so good at conveying the information. I was always surprised at how much I knew by the time the exam came around. And she is always willing to clarify a subject that you feel unsure about. This is the Accounting professor to take without a doubt.

Kim Richardson

just go to class and pay attention, dont bother reading the text, she gives handouts with everything you need to know, review the textbook problems she assigns before you take the test, Easy A if you have a fully functioning brain

Fantastic professor. She is very helpful and really works for the students. Go to class and do practice problems and you should be fine.

phenomenal accounting teacher...explains the material in such an easy way. tests are not difficult even if you only study just a little bit. very down to earth adn ALWAYS willing to help...approachable!! great teacher.

Irana Scott

Dr. Scott is the sweetest lady ever. Her tests are tough but she ends up helping you out at the end of the semester with grades. I should have done better in this class, accounting is just really hard for me. She makes a challenging subject very bearable!

Dr. Scott is by far one of the best professors I've had at JMU!! This class requires a lot of time and practice but she is always there for you. Has office hours all day the day before her tests and you can literally ask her anything. Use her helpfulness to your advantage, you should get a pretty good grade.

Dr. Scott is the nicest lady there is! She's a southern sweetheart with a southern accent that loves to go above and beyond to help her students. The night before the final she had a study session that was supposed to end at 9 but ended up going until midnight because she cares about her students so much! Tests are not cumulative but the final is.

Academics:

College Freshman Jan 7 2016
Definitely have had a wonderful experience with all my professors. JMU strives to have teachers that encourage success and are willing to help students. There is many review sessions and free tutoring that is EXTREMELY helpful on top of office hours. SO many places to study! JMU is known for "work hard play hard" and if you manage your work, and put the effort in, you will do well.

College Freshman Jan 7 2016
Even for GenEd classes professors teach with passion about their subject and are just happy to expose their students to new issues

College Sophomore Aug 6 2014
There is a wide variety of classes offered, all of which present a new challenge.

College Sophomore Aug 6 2014
My major has some of the most caring professors and the biggest network in terms of opportunities.

College Senior Jul 30 2014
I am in the business school, as well as the media arts and design school. I thoroughly enjoy both schools, and they offer enriching and interesting courses that keep me on my feet.

College Freshman Jul 2 2014
Academics are great at the school. The professors care and they want to help and teach you new material. The professors and the staff prepare you for life after school. The workload isn't too hard and not to easy, its just enough. There is more than one library making studying convenient wherever you are on campus.

Campus Quality:

College Sophomore Aug 6 2014
The campus is absolutely gorgeous, they are currently building to better the needs of our campus such as a new student center and recently a new library.

College Sophomore Jul 21 2014
The school is updating a ton of their areas. The science buildings are new as are the performing arts buildings. The school is getting ready to redo the football stadium and rumors are that they are also redoing the basketball center. Their are two librarys, one for each side of campus. The new library is beautiful. There are plenty of places for students to go and hang out. They are even making a new "student success" center so that there are more dining halls, study areas, and a more state of the art medical center. The new medical center is absolutely gorgeous and state of the art. JMU is becoming more high-tech.

College Junior Jul 10 2014
Everyone on campus is like one big family. There are several places to hang out between green spaces and one basement of a building. Every night of the week there is a different function being held somewhere (such as karaoke night).

The libraries are nice too, but they need more study rooms.

College Senior Jun 18 2014
Amazingly friendly atmosphere, everyone looks out for everyone and you will never find a time where someone doesn't hold open a door for you.

College Freshman May 30 2014
There are so many facilities for students. The academic programs are challenging, the social scene is happy and friendly, campus life is so bright that most people don't have a need to go off campus, and professors reach out to students to give them opportunities.

College Junior Dec 18 2013
James Madison prepares students for the real world with hands on experience. It provides top of the line equipment, so we'll know how to use tools that professionals are currently using. This is the happiest campus on earth.

Diversity:

College Freshman Dec 21 2015
It is a mostly white campus with a small amount of diversity but everyone gets along for the most part.

College Sophomore Aug 12 2014
We have large percentages of students from a few specific places but we mix well and hold many different views

College Freshman Jul 2 2014
There is diversity and there aren't any problems with different races, religions, political beliefs, or sexual orientation.

College Sophomore Jun 13 2014
We have growing diversity on campus and meaning of making everyone feel welcome and accepted. There are group and clubs that meet with similar interests, whether it be with ethnicity or sexual status, everyone is welcomed. Very active community.

College Freshman May 22 2014
There is diversity at JMU. We have people from many different backgrounds all at one school and it is great.

College Senior Dec 30 2013
Diversity at JMU is interesting...the people are mostly white, but there is a plethora of political and religious views on campus, so I guess that counts.

Guys & Girls:

College Sophomore Apr 20 2015
I don't notice the guys too much, so I guess that says something. The girls are in general pretty but a lot of them look the same…

College Freshman Feb 23 2015
Girls in sororities are all about their sisterhood and guys who are in a frat are all about their brotherhood. Kids can be whoever they want here doesn't matter if you're preppy or not.

College Junior Jul 23 2014
People at JMU are attractive, on the inside and out. Occasionally, you'll bump into some jerks, but the majority of the population is as friendly as can be.

College Freshman Jul 2 2014
The guys on campus are very friendly, hardworking, and always willing to help. They are very athletic and are passionate about what they do. Some can be shy but otherwise they are outgoing and they love to be at JMU and they show it!

College Junior Jun 11 2014
Girls outnumber guys, not by all all that much but it is noticeable. More attractive student body than most schools

College Sophomore May 30 2014
You'll see what you look for. The frat/sorority stereotypes are widely (and often obnoxiously) present, but so are other looks. You can definitely find what you're looking for-we have increasing amounts of diversity in every way.

College Senior Dec 30 2013
The people at JMU are great, with diverse interests. The girls are gorgeous and usually nice and pretty smart.
