University Professor Information

Business

Cheryl Barksdale

The best and possibly most caring teacher I've had at UT. She gives 100% to her students and class and it shows in the outcome of learned material. I have taken things from this class that will help me in life and have seen them in use before the class is even over. If you put some effort into the class, the output is tangible and life applicable.

Barksdale is the best! She makes the class so interesting to the point that you forget that the class is almost 3 hours long. Make sure to ask her for clarity on what she wants to see in your projects and papers. If you put you heart into your work you will make an A. You need to get the book because we used it ALOT.

Outstanding Professor!! Cheryl's holistic approach is easy to follow, very applicable and I know I will remember what she taught. She is extremely approachable and friendly and in my opinion, is exactly what a professor should be. I wish she was teaching more courses, as I feel she is probably thee best professor I've had.

Marcel Zondag

Hands down best professor ever! Get him at all costs! This class would have been literally miserable without him. He makes the material fun and loves working hands on with students. Made himself available 24/7 for students- seriously. Question at 3:00 am...no problem, lets just text Marcel. He's absolutely hilarious!

One of the best professors at UT. He knows his stuff and has great experience. He is a lot of fun to be around but also makes you work hard.

Marcel is the freaking man! One of the best teachers I have ever had at UT. He can be demanding of his students, but it is in a way that makes you want to do better without burning you out. Would take him again without question. He also is very attentive to students that work hard and will make it a point to reflect their hard work in their grade.

Mark Willoughby

Mark is a really nice guy. His class is pretty easy, as long as you go to class and do the work. He is a nice man to know in the business building.

Mark is a really good guy. The class is very easy and a good class to take if you are a first year Business student. Highly recommended!

Coolest cat in Knoxville. A super nice guy who helps you out even beyond the classroom. This class is super easy (and he knows it) but he still cares about his students learning the information. Great class to take if it's your first year.

Engineering:

Lawrence Heilbronn

You probably won't have a choice for which professor to teach this class but if you do end up with Heilbronn, consider yourself lucky! Pretty much the nicest and most genuine professor around who wants everyone to have equal opportunity to succeed. The whole department loves him and so will you!

Heilbronn is amazing. Best teacher I had at UT. Incredibly down-to-earth, helpful, clear, fair, & most of all intelligent. I've never seen him get stumped no matter how complex the solution to the question turned out to be. He would give the student an estimated answer then work the problem out before the next class period & discuss it's nuances

He is really helpful. You can go to his office anytime with a doubt and you will come out with few more clearer concepts. He keeps the homeworks simple and most importantly is an easy grader :)

Kevin Kit

Dr. Kit is a great teacher! He is very friendly and enthusiastic, and will work hard to make sure you understand what' going on! :)

Dr. Kit is available for help when you need it and listens to his students. The class is hard and there is a lot of homework, but it's doable if you don't slack off and seek out help when you need it. Kit is a fair teacher and seems interested in what he teaches.

Of the three professors teaching this course, Kit is the one who is willing to help the most. He will always answer questions, work problems completely through with you, and is a reasonable teacher who enjoys what he teaches.

John Landes

Dr. Landes is a great guy, helpful, clear and concise. Only downside is he writes REALLY fast, most of class time was spent desperately trying to keep up. Other than that he is great, tests were open book, open notes. If you make 75% on all the homework he gives the entire 10% that its worth, same for the projects. I would highly recommend him!

Dr. Landes is awesome! Everything in his class was extremely straightforward... He also has a dry sense of humor that is hilarious! If you have the option to take him for absolutely anything, do it! You will NOT regret it!

Dr. Landes is the greatest prof ever. You learn a lot without all the bull. Everything is clear and you always know what to expect. He doesn't believe in giving trick questions on test or quizzes. He explains everything thoroughly and will spend as much time as you need to answer questions. He has a dry sense of humor that i always liked.

Mathematics:

Jillian Trask

Jillian is amazing! She is SOOO helpful, ALWAYS will meet you at office hours when a time works for you, and is just overall an awesome teacher. Some tests are even partner tests. TAKE HER.

Jillian is a great math teacher. Her class is really easy (pretty much everyone gets an A or a B) and she explains the problems well and is very nice. She's also very willing to work with students after class if needed. If you have the opportunity to take her DO IT!

Jillian is a great teacher (well I guess she's technically a Grad Student but who cares). I am awful at math, she made it very simple and easy to understand. Always willing to meet up during office hours, extra office hours and our class would meet for reviews the night before tests. Take her she is AMAZING and so nice.

Brittany Stephenson

Awesome teacher. She's so nice and understanding and she's always there to help you if you ever need it. I emailed her with a question at 1 AM and she responded within 5 minutes. I don't know that I've ever had a teacher who explains math as well as she does. If you do the homework and ask her questions about whatever confuses you, you'll get an A.

She is a great teacher. She cares about students and makes sure you learn. There are quizzes and tests, but she tells you exactly what will be on them along with a study guide. Grades quickly. Super sweet and she will help you succeed. Class was easy.

Brittany is seriously my favorite math teacher ever. She truly cares about her students! She makes note taking guides for all of the lectures. You are allowed to miss up to 2 classes without it counting against you. If you take notes and pay attention I promise you will do well! She isn't trying to trick anyone, she just wants you to learn.

David Edwards

He is an amazing professor. UT is very lucky to have him. He makes class entertaining. The material isn't always that exciting, but he keeps everyone's attention easily with his humor. I actually enjoyed going to class. He grades fairly and will bend over backwards to help. It doesn't hurt that he is really cute. :) I recommend him wholeheartedly.

i am so bad at math, and i thought that stat 201 would be my hardest class this semester and i'd end up with MAYBE a low B. i've got a 95% average right now and i couldn't be happier and it's all b/c of david. stats is my BEST class... he is clear, helpful, and a fair grader. GET HIM IF AT ALL POSSIBLE!! and he's kinda cute in a nerdy way :)

He is, without a doubt, the BEST math teacher I've ever had. He's extremely helpful and probably the best Stats professor at UT. He grades fairly and truly cares about his students. I highly recommend him.

The variety of topics and classes are fantastic. There are many options as far as electives and humanities go, and everything is delivered in a way to appeal to a growing and curious mind.

College Freshman Jul 12 2014

The courses are specific to help increase learning. Concentrations provide the easiest way to get a broad full education and truly learn as well as get experience.

College Freshman Apr 29 2014

The Engineering department at UT is awesome. The entire program is run so efficiently and it is definitely the best for my education.

College Sophomore Mar 11 2014

I'm a math major. They're are always opportunities on campus with how to be more involved in the field. From summer math camps and internships to mathematics awards. The work load is a lot because the major requires a lot of hours.

Campus Quality:

College Junior Jul 15 2014

There's plenty of locations for small study groups on campus and the workout facilities are kept in great condition.

College Freshman Jul 12 2014

The facilities are the perfect balance of regal higher learning, with modern conveniences and comfortable atmosphere.

College Sophomore Jan 11 2014

Our athletic center is incredible, and the library is really great! We're in the process of building a new Student center, and I'm sure it will be very helpful and cater to all of our needs.

College Sophomore Jan 9 2014

Amazing. The experience comes from involvement. The more involvement in student activities and functions, the more satisfying the experience.

College Freshman Jan 3 2014

The University of Tennessee offers an abundance of activities and clubs that would appeal to a variety of students; that way everyone can find a group to belong in.

College Freshman Dec 30 2013

There are such great amenities on campus, and always way to appreciate going to this school. Everything on campus encourages you to get involved.

Diversity:

College Sophomore Aug 6 2014

We have all sorts. It's great for the most part because you get to learn about other people. However, our campus isn't very conservative-friendly.

College Senior Jul 22 2014

Most of my friends are international or came to America as teenagers. I feel like acceptance is easy at my school regardless of religion, politics, ethnicity, or even sexual orientation. We have LBGT,Sex, and interational/diversity weeks sponsored by the university.

College Freshman Jul 12 2014

There are many different people from many different places attending the university. Its nice to see that the students as well as the college take an interest in promoting educational and social events for all the different groups.

College Junior Jun 26 2014

The lgbt and international community is strong on campus. The respect is decent for one another on campus. However, there are racial and economic discrimination via student to student and from administration to student.

College Freshman Apr 29 2014

The University of Tennessee works hard to promote the acceptance of all races and ethnicities. It's very comforting to belong to a school whose students and faculty care so much about everyone.

College Freshman Mar 27 2014

UT is the most diverse school I have seen. The diversity is wonderful because it gives you the opportunity to learn about others and their cultures.

Guys & Girls:

College Freshman Apr 21 2015

I've been dating my high school sweetheart for three years, so I'm not on the dating scene, but from what I understand it's mostly short-lived relationships and hookups. Some people are looking for long term relationships though. Basically everyone is really preppy and likes to party, but some people don't.

College Junior Oct 28 2014

Girls are pretty attractive. Theres are a ton of people so it's kind of hard to lump them into one group.

College Sophomore Aug 6 2014

Most people are pretty open to conversation and making connections. And, of course most people dress pretty "frat".

College Junior May 8 2014

Everyone at UT is great. Everyone's friendly, easy to talk to, and fun. I wouldn't say there is a typical look around campus; it's pretty diverse with many different types of people. Joining an interest club or social club is the best way to meet people.

College Freshman Jan 13 2014

There are plenty of attractive, interesting guys & girls on campus. There is a diverse social scene, so you can find just about any type of person.

College Freshman Dec 18 2013

Students around campus are all pretty attractive. There is such a variety when it comes to possible relationships. From classrooms to study groups, it is not hard to find someone for you an campus.
