University Professor Information

Aazam Virani

Dr. Virani was an excellent professor and does a phenomenal job of teaching his content while showing how it is practical in the finance field. Pay attention in class and do your homework and you'll be fine. Most of the test questions come from the homework and the practice tests he provides.
Virani is probably the best professor I have ever had so far. He is extremely well spoken, and is willing to go through things in depth for those who actually ask. Very respectable and inspirational figure. The key to this class is to frequently go over everything. The more time you let the info sink in, the more it becomes second nature.
Virani was my favorite teacher this semester. Show up to class and take notes so that you don't freak out the night before the test. He is passionate about finance, which has inspired me to continue in finance. With his background and knowledge, he could be the CFO anywhere by now. I felt honored to have him as a teacher.

Lubo Litov

Simply put, Lubo is the man. He curves exams based on class performance, on top of grading exams lightly(gives you about 50% of the points just for attempting the the question), and he will sit down with any student 1 on 1 and help you understand material taught in class. Just a great guy outside the classroom as well. Long live Lubo
He really knows what he's talking about cause he has tons of experience in the business world. Super helpful and emails you back within ten minutes! Material is a little tough but do his recommended review questions cause it helps.
Nice professor, very reasonable with exams and assignments, clear explanations, very friendly, and always ready to help.

Richard Serlin

This course is absolutely wonderful! The content is extremely applicable to people from all different aspects of life- and his Career Plan Assignment is (long and comprehensive, but) SO VALUABLE to your future if you complete it well. Readings are wonderful- I'm keeping the assigned texts in my personal collection. This class is a MUST TAKE!
great class all the resources were useful for beyond the class room. yes the class didn't require tons of work it still was a class that made the biggest impact on my education. Highly recommended!
Signed up for this class looking forward to a cupcake gen-ed over winter break, ended up with some of the most useful information I've ever gotten out of a course, taught by a teacher who obviously cares very much about his students. Actually manages to teach you during the final, somehow. Never seen anything like it. TAKE THIS CLASS

Hal Tharp

He puts all class notes and lectures online, but because of his style of teaching, I still went to every lecture. His love and interest in the subject lends exceptionally well to conveying concepts simply and effectively. If you can get Tharp, do it 100%
I can honestly say that he cares about the students more than any teacher I have had at the UofA. His tests can be a bit rough, but he curves and will even reteach topics if he notices the class struggling. His jokes are actually really entertaining which makes class entertaining! Class is not mandatory, but the quizzes WILL help your grade.
By far one of the best professors ive have at UA. He records his lectures and posts them online, so if you miss class, you dont fall behind. Also posts good study material online, and is very helpful in office hours. He cracks jokes all the time and definitely wants every student to succeed.

Micheal Marcellin

Great teacher. USE THE PRACTICE EXAMS!!! He never uses e as a test answer, except for extra credit questions. Great teacher and class. I wish he was my teacher for every class.
Dr. Marcellin is an exceptional professor. His effectiveness in lecturing is unparalleled at the U of A. Also, he possesses a genuine interest in the success of his students which is very rare. Under any and all circumstances, I recommend taking Dr. Marcellin's class.
Professor Marcellin was nothing short of excellent, and I wish he could teach all my classes. He made dry material interesting and compelling. Final is pretty hard, but aside from that, it's a great class.

Jeff Goldberg

Dean Goldberg is the nicest and most helpful person you'll meet in the college! He is always willing to help you and answers any concerns you may have. You can see he is passionate about engineering and your success in the course. The books he recommends aren't mandatory but quite interesting.
Jeff is a great teacher and a very interesting person. He makes a pretty dry class very interesting. His assistant, Peter Gill, is also a great guy. He will help u with any problems, academic or personal. I would recommend him any day and plan to take his classes in the future.
An aspiration to all future engineers at the University of his own way of course. Seriously though, a charismatic individual with a genuine love for his field. Concise and to the point at all times. He's knowledgeable and easy to relate to. But best of all, he's quite humble for the position that he holds. Must have him at least once!

Vannessa Kramer

Vanessa is such an incredible professor and person. The material she teaches is incredibly interesting and she will help you no matter how dumb the question is. She is 100% there for her students and will do anything she can to help you. There were small quizzes, about 10 points each. Very easy class while still learning a lot about global business
Vannessa kept the class interesting. Everyone participated in discussions and it made the class more lively. I definitely learned the most from this class last semester. Oh, and Ms. Kramer is the nicest lady you'll have as a teacher!
She was absolutely helpful in the material she taught. She went above and beyond to help you succeed as a student. The material I learned was extremely helpful. Without a doubt she is one of the best professors I have taken.

Jeff Welter

Jeff is an amazing teacher and career coach. This was the most helpful and interesting required class for pre-business. Jeff explained things clearly and gave excellent advice for professional admissions to Eller and internships/jobs. He tried to prepare us for anything we could encounter in college and in our post-grad lives. Try to have him!
Mr. Welter was a phenomenal! I had him for BNAD 100 as well as BNAD 200 and he always coached me in PDC. He is a great professor and the topics he teaches in class are actually relevant to your business career goals!
This class is very laid back and enjoyable. The class consist of easy, meaningful assignments. Jeff shows us so many helpful things pertaining to careers and provides us with many resources. He is very helpful during class and outside of class. He instructs the class with enthusiasm and shows interest in all his students.

Peter J Corrigan

Professor Corrigan wants students to learn useful information. He uses nearly every minute preparing the class for Eller admissions and how to improve our character to obtain business skills companies are looking for.
Pete, does a great job with only 50 minutes, one time per week, teaching his students about the general landscape of business and how to go about seeking opportunities. This is a great class, in the sense that it exposes you to a career coach in Eller and allows for connections either in the business school or in a field you are interested in.

Students Talks About This University

Academics College Student Feb 12

Everything is relatively great, the professors are always willing to help out. The curriculum, while rigorous, is fun and intriguing. The workload is pretty typical for any college class. The registration process was pretty easy and smooth.

College Sophomore Jan 8

I am a sophomore and the professors I've had so far have almost all been great. I have been able to go to most of them and they have been more than willing to help. The workload is definitely what I thought "college homework" would be like. Some classes have less, and others have the amount of two or three classes combined. I love going on University blvd. and study inside "The Scented Leaf" while i get tea. I also am always in the library and I love the way it's laid out, it's very comfortable and accommodating.

College Freshman Dec 29 2015

College Freshman Jan 22 2015

The professors that I have had so far are always willing to help out in any way possible. They answer emails fairly quickly and try to answer all questions that are not covered in things like the syllabus. Some curriculum seem a bit unnecessary for majors. There are always tutoring available if the funding is there and there are many learning and tutoring services out there that can cater to any major. The most popular study areas would have to be the main library, the science engineering library and the Bear Down gym where there is math and English tutoring.

College Senior Jun 17 2014

One of the most beautiful campuses. Its always great to study in one of the six libraries and look outside to an amazing view. It doesnt hurt that the sun shines most days of the year, so students are always out and about on campus. Student union is great with lots of food amenities, anything you need right in one place.

Most people, if not overly stressed about their schoolwork, have a great social life. You can balance having friends and doing your work here.
